The Uncommon Music Festival

There are presently no open calls for applications.

The Uncommon Music Festival is an annual, week-long summer music festival in Sitka, Alaska. The Festival is dedicated to breaking the boundaries of standard concert repertoire with performances of early music, contemporary music, and under-performed repertoire from any age.

The Festival is presented by the Uncommon Music Ensemble, which is comprised of a vocal quartet, a keyboard player, and a guitar player. The Ensemble hosts a variety of solo and group concerts, as well as events which are co-hosted with local community partners in Sitka.

In August, 2017, the Uncommon Music Festival will partner with the Sitka Sacred Harp Society, the Sitka Sound Science Center, St. Peter's by the Sea Episcopal Church, and the Greater Sitka Arts Council on a number of community events. These events are in addition to its regular concert series, including a concert of solo keyboard music, solo guitar music, solo vocal music, and accompanied vocal ensemble music.

The Festival is accepting applicants for two programs in 2017:

  • Uncommon Music Festival 2017 Media Fellow
  • Uncommon Music Festival 2017 Composer Competition
